Short drive today only SEVEN hours…

Driving through Oklahoma, I never realized how many casinos there are…we rocked some country music. A special mix called Curlew Country held me to the state line. Texas is just a country, so I kept Zac Brown Band pumping until arriving in Amarillo, Texas. A fun little town along the famous Route 66! In their logo…the LL’s in Amarillo are cowboy boots…cute!

The big task of the day was to spray paint on Cadillac Ranch! Three dudes in an art group, Ant Farm, placed 10 cars vertically in a cow field. There is more history behind the cars and a link to Pyramids of Giza! Any who…I spent an hour painting, taking picture of German people, and chatting with other budding artist! What an amazing concept to bring all walks of life together, cars and spray paint! I created stencils before leaving home. The first is my crazy dog with a super cute PINK bow. The second is me…just my eyes. Super fun afternoon…now how can I incorporate this into my elementary art curriculum!?!

Being an OTR (over the road…my Grandpa Pete says this all the time) woman now….I have learned things about the road and myself…

1) When filling up  your car, don’t park at the ONLY diesel pump! People get mad.

2) Dooney needs her ‘anti-stress’ medicine morning, noon, and night!

3)Always get to your destination before night time…when the sun is out, I am confident. When the moon pops up, I turn into a 5-year-old afraid of the boogeyman.

These lessons made my Day 2…a great success!!!

4 tanks of gas + 6 states + fabu music + crazy weather = Day 1

My day started later than my original plan, but I was able to roll out of Atlanta around nine. As I drove   through Atlanta, I enjoyed the great morning radio of my fabulous city until the static started! As I hit Alabama, I played Adele…rolling in the deeeeeppp! Driving through Birmingham, I was shocked to still see tornado damage. It was surreal to drive down a street with the left side in shambles and the right perfectly untouched. Swinging into Mississippi, I listened to Jason Miraz. Upbeat and jolly, just like the beautiful views along interstate 22! I spent a short amount of time in Memphis, Tennessee and quickly shot over a cool green bridge into Arkansas. Now Arkansas was filled with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Mumford and Sons tunes…loved the music, but I never thought I would make it to Oklahoma. My last thirty miles were ALL lightening, rain, rain, and more rain. Never good when trying to find your way in a unfamiliar place – got lost, but thank goodness for the ouija board(aka iPhone)! So here I sit a few miles north of Checotah, Oklahoma. My final destination…and I learned from a large green sign in the rain it is the home of Carrie Underwood. It was a great day one. Growing more proud of this vast and crazy country I call home! I am hoping for better weather tomorrow, no creepy old guys, and more music matching for each state I drive through…thinking country for my time in OK!!! Or maybe show tunes?!?

Just finished the biggest stretch for today…220 miles went by fast. It was almost like I was in some zen state until dude in a red ford range was honking his horn and repeatedly stuck his tongue out?!? Whats up with that…thank god he got off a few miles back!!! On to Arkansas!!!

‘Twas the night before my road trip and all through my condo

Not a creature was stirring not even my dog-0!

The check lists were made with items to pack

In hope of a safe journey, so just relax!

Gummy worms and diet coke, a girl can’t go wrong.

Buckle my seat belt, my driving is NOT strong!

Camping, hotels…a few reservations made

Excitement and nerves, will not go away

I will be safe – not talk to strangers

Pepper spray, tire iron my defense – if danger!

My last days of summer will improve

Keep track of this girl – she is on the MOVE!

Getting ready to set out on a road trip with myself, gummy worms, Cherry Blossom (car), and Dooney (the D.O.G)!
